Make An Aquifer
Saturday April 13, 2013
11:00 am to 2:00 pm

The second Saturday in April visitors are invited to join naturalist Valerie Bain and high school volunteers to learn more about the Mystery of Blackbird Pond.

There will be stories, games, and hands on activities. Admission is free, donations are always welcome. This event is part of an ongoing series held on the second Saturday of each month, through the month of November.


Spring Festival
Saturday April 27, 2013
10:00 am to 2:00 pm

Celebrate the Exuberance of Spring! The Spring Festival at Shipley Nature Center is open to the public and features, interactive family activities, nature group displays, live music, and more.

The maypole dance begins at 11am and the Southern California Dulcimer Heritage will perform from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm.

There will also be California native plants for sale, plein air artists painting the habitat, live music, refreshments and many interactive family events. Admission is free, donations are always welcome.


Bird Talk with Steve Kaye

Join us for a presentation on local birds, followed by bird walk through the habitats.

Vermicomposting
May 18, June 22, August 24 and September 21
9:30 am

Shipley Nature Center presents informative lectures on Vermicomposting (composting food scraps with worms) and Backyard Composting (traditional composting with yard waste and other organics). Learn how easily you can transform your kitchen scraps and backyard cuttings into rich compost for your plants and gardens.

Lectures will be held at Shipley Nature Center 17851 Goldenwest St. Huntington Beach 92647. The first is on Saturday, May 18th, 2013 at 9:30 am. Repeat lectures will be on June 22nd, August 24th and September 21st. Registration is $10.00 per person. Space is limited, so advance registration is required.

Composting units will be available for purchase at the lectures. For Huntington Beach residents only, the City of Huntington Beach is providing $50 vouchers to be used toward the purchase of a vermiculture composter or a traditional composting bin.

The 2013 Composting Education sessions are made possible by the City of Huntington Beach, Rainbow Environmental Services, Inc., The Friends of Shipley Nature Center and ENRECOS.
